Today’s update comes from Case Barden, the producer of Broken Leg:
Writing is tough. There are a lot of letters and combinations of letters and they all mean different things. Kieran and I wrote the first draft of Broken Leg and have worked constantly to improve the script throughout this year. We’ve always wanted to bring another writer on board, ideally a woman writer to give us a better perspective for Karla’s character. When searching for a writer, it’s all about finding a talented person who shares your sensibilities but also challenges you. By choice, writing should be tough so you reach the best answer.
I work as a production assistant in LA. It’s a hard but fun job where you meet dozens of creative and ambitious people. One of those people who I’ve known over the years has always been a ball of light and cheer. She’s smart and funny, #fact. I enjoy working with her. So when we needed an extra hand with casting in LA, I asked her. She made the process so enjoyable. She and Kieran really clicked. Then the lightbulb went off in my head. I don’t why I didn’t think of it sooner. She should join our writing team. I ran the idea by Kieran and he was actually thinking the same thing. Similar to what he said about casting, when the person is right, you just know.

As a post-casting celebration the three of us got hot dogs. We take our hot dogs seriously so we went to Wurstküche (If you’re in LA, check it out… it’s delicious)!. We enjoyed our meal and broached the question “Do you want to be our writer?” It was like asking a girl out or proposing… maybe not nearly as difficult but we were still nervous. She said “Yes.” (we went to Jared #fact)

Here and now we present the latest addition to the Broken Leg team, the one and only, Caroline Watson. Taking out the trash, taking names, and writing… mostly writing.
Caroline Watson hails from Stuart, Florida, a small coastal town about an hour and a half from Miami. Thomas Edison installed electricity in the town where Caroline went to college in St. Augustine (#fact). That school was also a castle. She likes bildungsroman stories (look it up). Caroline interned for Conan O’Brien. On several occasions, Conan angrily threw magazines off her desk and had her pick them up again, it made her smile every time. She recently wrapped production on Don Jon’s Addiction, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut (swoon). She is a talented and ambitious writer and producer.

Caroline recently finished her second pass on the script and it’s way funnier. Today marks one month until we begin filming Broken Leg and we wish we would have discovered her even sooner. The film is approaching swiftly and the updates will continue to flow. Please continue to keep an eye on us and thank you for your support! #fact
